DANCE TRUST OF ZIMBABWE -
OUTREACH DANCE FESTIVAL
The Outreach Programme of the Dance Trust of Zimbabwe teaches Dance free of charge to approximately 400 underprivileged and physically/mentally children. An attempt is made every year to stage an Outreach Dance Festival in order to enable the children, who are participating in the programme, to meet and display their acquired skills through performances of dance routines they have learnt throughout the year.
It was not possible to stage the Outreach Dance Festival in 2008 but we obtained private funding to stage the Festival in 2009. In 2010 we received a generous donation to the Outreach Project, which more than covered the cost of staging the Outreach Dance Festival, which was staged at the Emerald Hill School for the Deaf on 27 November, 2010. The Festival was a great success. UNICEF very kindly donated T shirts, which were given to all the children at the end of the Festival."
"We hope to secure funding to stage another Outreach Dance Festival at the end of 2011."
Funds are required to transport the children from the various schools and institutions to
the Festival, to hire a suitable venue, pay for music and costumes and to provide light
refreshments for the children and teachers during the event.
We feel that it is very important for the children to be given a chance to perform in front
of an audience because, if they do not get this chance, it can be liken to someone going to
soccer practice all year and never playing a match.
The estimated cost of staging the Outreach Dance Festival is USD 3 000.
